How to Develop Planet Habits

It can feel challenging to get going with planet-friendly habits.

Here are three important components to sprucing up your routine with some planet-helping upgrades:

1. Ride that motivation wave. Motivation waves can come from feeling inspired by others or feeling compelled to action by a flashpoint event. Maybe you hear your friend raving about her new built-in workout from her bike to work route. Or read what's happening in the Amazon Rainforest fires and are eager to respond. These motivating moments aren't enough to create long-term changes but are very effective to getting you off the couch and into action. So, when you feel this motivation, look quickly to take action.

2. Connect to daily driving priority. While environmental values are widespread, these priorities aren't experienced urgently or regularly. Connecting your planet habits to other priorities that give you an immediate sense of joy, accomplishment, relief, or peace does a few...

How to Stay Eco-Motivated

The Amazon rainforest fires are still raging. Before we get distracted by the next crisis or get pulled into day to day routines, let's stay with this issue and use it to practice breaking the cycle of inaction.

Let's build up a sustainable motivation that will get us off the couch when we feel  like it would be easier to check out.

To review, there are first two important steps for breaking the cycle of eco-crisis inaction:

1. Celebrate your innate planet-loving values that automatically create a reaction to environmental crisis or challenges. That's a hard-wired value that is commendable and shows you are inherently capable of activating for helping the planet.

2. Pick one small thing to do TODAY. Refuse a straw, ask a neighbor for an ingredient instead of running to the store, ask around your workplace for anyone interested in carpooling. Just one thing that feels really doable. Then treat it like you are learning something new: it's not about doing...

Are You Crunchy?

Wow. I kind of can't believe I'm actually launching this after re-recording practice episodes for an embarrassing amount of time. Let's just say I've got PLENTY of practice speaking words into a microphone and while this isn't perfect, I'm DELIGHTED to finally kick off this phase of outreach.

ARE YOU CRUNCHY?

Who knew this question would kick off such a hunt within myself and household?! Not to mention eventually bring me to the realization that I needed to start a business to help others struggling with similar issues.

Do you feel like your habits and products don't fully reflect your values?

Even as someone that built a career working with environmental issues I found my own habits out of whack. After building up planet-friendly practices in the past, having kids or experiencing major life changes can upend even the most established habits.

Here's what I found as I worked to clean up my own habits and product choices:

  1. Many resources out there focus on everything...

Extreme Heat Waves: What We Can Do

This week parts of the United States are getting a taste of how climate change is ushering in more extreme heatwaves.

While it can feel murky to link weather with climate (it’s tricky!) there are numerous reports that link hotter days with climate change. But health advocates are sounding the alarm for how hotter days are a major health threat right now.

One of the interesting trends is the dramatic evening warm ups that have been recorded. This means that while it does cool beyond the record temp of the day, it doesn’t cool down much at night putting much more stress on vulnerable populations. Add in electrical grid stresses of increased A/C and fan units running, and the risks for brownouts or blackouts during our hottest evenings are a major recipe for concern.

As many parts of the United States face the latest heat wave, here’s how we can all take action:

  1. Put energy smart practices into play to stay cool. Save money + save the planet!
    1. Cool down...
